Paradigms Vs. Methods: A Methodological Approach to the Decision-Making Process of Researchers
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction. In a research process we are often faced with the question of options that, invariably, lead us to make choices. But are the choices/options we make, especially in relation to paradigms and methods, conscious or well-informed?. Objective. In this short excerpt, we seek to discuss the subject of paradigms in order to allow a critical and conscious approach to paradigms and the option of qualitative, quantitative methods and/or even the adoption of a qualitative-quantitative method mix. In other words, this excerpt aims to discuss some aspects related to paradigms, methods and methodological options in the research process of a scientific investigation. Methodology. This article is part of the chapter on the methodology of the work we carried out at doctoral level on intermediate management in schools in the Angolan educational context. It is a process of literature review on issues that have to do with research paradigms where the question is asked, for example, what differentiates one paradigm from another? Is it possible, in the same study, to use a mixed approach? How are the researcher’s decisions regarding the choice of methods made?. Conclusion. From the analysis we carried out in the literature on aspects related to metrological paradigms, methods and options, we concluded that, regardless of the options, in terms of paradigms and methods, the most important thing is that these decisions are well informed.
