Beginning in 1867, the Ward Line steamship began regularly transporting thousands of North Americans to Cuba for health, leisure, and business purposes, clearly marking this period as the early emergence of tourism in Cuba. Consequently, conditions for serving foreign visitors expanded and improved, including the creation of hotels in Havana beginning in 1860, thus consolidating the development of tourism. The objective of this work is to identify the origin and emergence of tourism in Cuba in the 19th century, highlighting the main characteristics of its evolution. The methodology followed corresponds to a descriptive historical investigation of tourism in Cuba. The result is that tourism has been observed in Cuba since the sixth decade of the 19th century. It is concluded that tourism emerged in Cuba at a similar time to other countries in the Americas and in the same century as it emerged in Europe. General Area of Study: History, Specific Area of Study: History of Tourism, Type of Study: Original Article
Héctor Salvador Ayala Castro Copyright (c) 2025 Ciencia & Turismo http://cienciayturismo.org/index.php/cienciayturismo/article/view/73 Sun, 05 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Competencies in digital information management in university students http://cienciayturismo.org/index.php/cienciayturismo/article/view/74
Introduction: The management of digital information has become a fundamental skill in the current academic and professional environment. Objective: The objective of this research is to describe the competencies in digital information management of university students. Methodology: Quantitative-descriptive research was conducted using a sample of university students. Results: The results revealed that the students possess a moderate level of competencies in digital information management. They face difficulties in areas such as correctly citing information sources, mastering rules and styles for working with references, lacking skills to identify relevant sources, and efficiently organizing and storing digital information. Conclusion: The study highlights the need to include digital information management as an integral part of training programs. Implementing training and support programs is suggested to enhance the students' competencies in this field. General Area of Study: Education. Specific area of study: Competencias en gestión de la información. Type of study: Original articles
Félix Díaz Pompa, Alfredo Bravo Cruz, Teresa Guadalupe Jiménez Martínez, Guadalupe Fernández López Copyright (c) 2025 Ciencia & Turismo http://cienciayturismo.org/index.php/cienciayturismo/article/view/74 Mon, 24 Nov 2025 20:39:51 +0000 Recreation and Leisure Time: Keys to Well-being and Social Development http://cienciayturismo.org/index.php/cienciayturismo/article/view/75
Nowadays, recreation and leisure play an essential role in individual well-being and social development. Beyond meeting the need for rest, these practices significantly contribute to inclusion, mental health, the building of social bonds, and personal growth. This work presents key concepts, examines the current context, and highlights international and Cuban experiences where recreation has had a positive impact on communities. Our objective is to analyze the importance of leisure and recreation as tools for comprehensive well-being and social development within communities. These activities provide physical, emotional, and social benefits and are key to strengthening social cohesion and quality of life. Based on the analysis of successful initiatives, the study emphasizes the need to promote public policies that guarantee equitable access to recreational spaces and programs. Furthermore, the implementation of accessible recreational therapies for all ages and social groups is proposed, which can enhance personal development, inclusion, and institutional engagement. Recognizing recreation as a fundamental right allows us to move towards healthier, more equitable, and humane societies.
José Díaz Valdés, Eugenio Rodolfo González Pérez, Arcelia Gonzáles Paneque , Luis Efraín Velasteguí López Copyright (c) 2025 Ciencia & Turismo http://cienciayturismo.org/index.php/cienciayturismo/article/view/75 Fri, 28 Nov 2025 20:22:11 +0000 Administrative efficiency in the financial performance of the Asociación Agropecuaria ElBarro http://cienciayturismo.org/index.php/cienciayturismo/article/view/76
Introduction. Administrative management is a determining factor for the financial performance of organizations, especially in the rural agricultural sector, characterized by limited resources and market vulnerability. The Asociación Agropecuaria El Barro de Puerto Cayo presents significant challenges in the articulation between its administrative management and its financial operations, which affects its growth and sustainability. Objective. Determine the impact of administrative management on the financial operations of Asociación Agropecuaria El Barro during the period 2024-2025. Methodology. The study was developed under a non-experimental transectional-descriptive design, with a mixed approach (qualitative-quantitative). The study population was a census of the 21 active members of the association. The data collection techniques included a structured survey with a Likert scale, semi-structured interviews with managers and documentary analysis. Results. 100% of the partners perceive a direct relationship between board management and financial performance. However, the analysis of simulated financial indicators revealed a Current Liquidity Ratio of 0.95:1 and a Net Profitability Margin of 4.2%, indicating structural deficiencies. The correlation between Management Planning and Profitability was positive and significant (r=0.78; p<0.01). Qualitatively, the absence of formal budget planning, lack of internal controls and lack of knowledge of administrative tools were identified in 85% of the partners. Conclusion. Administrative management has a determining influence on the association's financial operability. It confirms the existence of an empirical management that, although it allows subsistence, lacks a structured model, limiting efficiency, liquidity and the potential for sustainable growth. The implementation of a management model that integrates formal planning, transparent internal control and continuous training for members is recommended. General Area of Study: Administrative and Economic Sciences. Specific area of study: Financial Management in Agricultural Organizations.Type of study: Original articles
Nayely Daniela Tejena Vargas, Erick Raúl Baque Sánchez Copyright (c) 2025 Ciencia & Turismo http://cienciayturismo.org/index.php/cienciayturismo/article/view/76 Fri, 28 Nov 2025 20:31:13 +0000
